Local NewsExclusive: Triple Shooting Victims SpeakBy Lauren Leamanczyk
MILWAUKEE - The family of three teenagers shot Wednesday spoke exclusively to TODAY’S TMJ4 about their ordeal.
The shooting, near 94th and Brown Deer, began with an argument. Then, family members got involved and a brawl ensued. One 16-year-old boy pulled out a gun and started firing.
Police say he may have gotten that gun from his mother.
The three injured teenagers are brothers and sisters. All survived the shooting.
The youngest victim told TODAY’S TMJ4 she was "surprised, but mostly scared" by the gunfire. Tatanisha Wright, 14, is recovering from her injuries, but she is still shaken by what happened.
"They just jumped my brother for no reason and then we went over there and they started shooting at us," Tatanisha said.
Tatanisha was hit in the hand and grazed in the back.
The teenagers' grandmother, Thelma Murphy, is shocked by the violence, but even more sickened by who was involved.
“That the mother gave her son the gun to shoot my three grandkids,” Murphy said.
Tatanisha learned a scary, painful lesson.
"Ain't no point in fighting. Might as well just walk away," Tatanisha said.
Now, her family wants the suspects to learn one too.
"They should make an example out of the mother so that other parents won't even do that what she did," Murphy said. "It's in God's hands and whatever punishment he got for them, they'll get it."
Police arrested the mother and two 16-year-old boys. They are expected to be charged on Friday.
