Local NewsPolice Search For Gun Used At Mayfair MallBy Shelley Walcott
WAUWATOSA - Wauwatosa police were still searching Thursday night for the gun used during an attempted robbery at Mayfair Mall Thursday afternoon.
"There are a lot of places at Mayfair to stash a gun, so we're making as much of an effort as we can to find that weapon,” Lt. Dominic Leone said.
Wauwatosa police arrested two people Thursday in connection to the attempted robbery.
The arrests came after a man was held up at gunpoint in a bathroom at the mall.
It happened during the crowded lunch hour.
It was a scary sight for holiday shoppers at Mayfair: police investigating an armed robbery attempt in the middle of the day.
Police say a 36-year-old Greenfield man was using the bathroom near the mall's center court when a Milwaukee man in his mid 20s held him up at gunpoint.
"This is a random robbery of an individual inside the mall,” Wauwatosa Police Lt. Leone said.
“Being in a public place like that, you're not really expecting it, but it could happen to anyone, any place. Nowadays you have to be careful every place you go,” Milwaukee shopper James Woolfolk said.
The suspect didn't get away with anything, and the victim wasn't hurt.
Just minutes later, Wauwatosa police arrested the suspect and his friend in the mall's parking lot.
