Gunfire Rips Through Neighborhood
By Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - Gunfire ripped through a Milwaukee neighborhood in broad daylight Tuesday.
Two people were hit.
One of them is just 15 years old.
Police raced to the scene after bullets were sprayed in the street near 26th and Nash.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the back and a 26-year-old man was shot in the foot.
Neighbors said off camera it was a shootout.
Police canvassed the area for bullet casings and found at least eight.
People living in the area say they're fed up. “No one around there wants to talk they’re all afraid and this is a 15-year-old kid. He should have been in school. He should have been in school. That could have been my son, my daughter, so we just got to get involved. It’s not about it happened to somebody but it could be you or your child,” Perlie Greer said.
The shooting happened in broad daylight and police are looking for a motive and at least one shooter.
Neighbors said the 15-year-old victim appeared to be caught in the cross fire. His injuries are the most serious.
Police Chief Ed Flynn showed up at the crime scene to meet with investigators.
As police work to question neighbors and search for evidence, many remain hopeful they'll get him off the streets before this happens again.
“I think the police is doing a great job and we need to get more involved with them also, you know, I think that's what we got to do to get involved,” Greer said.
It’s possible one other person may have been shot or injured in the gunfire but neighbors say he left the scene.
