MILWAUKEE - A frantic woman called 911, but the dispatcher hung up on her.
Caller: “Do not leave your mama. He's going to hurt her. Don't leave me!
Dispatcher: “Call me back when you're going to talk to me.”
A hysterical woman called for help, but the 911 operator hung up on her!
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is recommending that a 911 dispatcher be fired for "gross neglect of duty," after Sheriff Clarke says he hung up on a woman who was being beaten by her boyfriend in front of her young children.
Dispatcher: “Milwaukee County 911.”
Caller: “There's nothing to talk about.”
Dispatcher: “911, what's your emergency?”
Caller: “There's nothing to talk about. Get away!”
You can hear the woman screaming in the background. Still, the dispatcher does nothing to help, even telling the woman he would hang up if she didn't explain why she called 911.
Dispatch: “Hello? You need to talk to me or I’m going to hang up.”
Caller: “No! Get away! I don't want you...no!”
Caller: “(Crying) Come on, baby girl, come here. Come on. Come by me. Come on, come by mama. No! Do not leave your mama. He's going to hurt her. Don't leave me!”
Dispatcher: “Call me back when you're going to talk to me.”
Sheriff Clarke says, at a minimum, the dispatcher should have transferred the call to the Milwaukee Police Department.
The sheriff also says there is "no excuse" for what happened.
The sheriff also says that dispatcher has been disciplined in the past for rules violations.
