Grafton Family Gets Surprise Home Makeover

By Lauren Leamanczyk

GEAFTON - A Grafton family received the surprise of a lifetime Tuesday afternoon. Karen Longoria and her kids learned they'd be getting a complete home makeover. Longoria is battling an aggressive form of breast cancer. She's a single mom to teenage triplets. Two of her three children were born with cerebral palsy. Just a couple years ago, they were diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. They now need wheelchairs, but the Longoria home is not wheelchair accessible. That's where One Heartland, a charitable organization, and Kapco, Inc. stepped in. Kapco sponsors Hometown Heroes. They decided the Longorias fit the bill. When the family pulled up at their home Tuesday afternoon, there were hundreds of friends and neighbors in their front lawn. Karen had thought they'd be getting new flooring and wider doorways. Organizers informed her, they'd be doing much more. Much of the labor and materials are being donated by local companies. Neighbors continue to raise money to cover the remaining costs. Kapco, Inc. will fund any balance. Karen was overwhelmed by the kindness. "It makes me cry," Karen said. "Just the support was wonderful. Everyone here, it was very exciting." The project will be complete before Thanksgiving. To volunteer your assistance or make a donation email hometownheroes@kapcoinc.com.
