3 More Charged In Homeless Man's Murder
By Associated Press
MILWAUKEE - Three more people, two from Milwaukee and one from Okauchee, face murder charges in the killing of a homeless man on a trail near the Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee.
According to criminal complaints, the killing happened early last Thursday after a group of people went to the tent where 29-year-old Kelly Graf was sleeping to confront him about naked pictures of a teenaged girl that he had been showing on his cell phone.
The complaint quotes witnesses as saying they took Graf from the tent, beat him and took him to the trail where 26-year-old Matthew McAfee shot him in the head and cut his throat.
A passer-by later found Graf, who was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.
McAfee, of Milwaukee, was charged Wednesday with first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery of a convenience store the same night and possession of a firearm as a felon.
Charged with being party to felony murder in the death were 32-year-old Timothy Fuchs of Milwaukee and 25-year-old Kyle King of Okauchee. King was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm for an incident October 16.
Charged Tuesday with being party to felony murder was 18-year-old Sean Smith of Milwaukee.
A total of seven people are in custody. They range in age from 14 to 32, and they all knew the victim.
Neighbors are grateful police rounded up the dangerous group.
“I’m just happy they caught everybody and now I can have my kids out here. They can ride their bikes and not have to worry about someone in the woods over there,” Jesse Torres said.
Graf had a record of his own with drug, battery and drunken driving convictions. But now he's the victim of a crime far more serious than any charge he ever faced.
Graf has family in the area, most recently staying with his mother in Waukesha County at an apartment building in Hartland.
His distraught mother says she wants to know why someone wanted to take her son's life.
Graf's mother now lives in Hales Corners. She hopes all those involved will be brought to justice.
