MILWAUKEE - There was a lot of discussion during Wednesday night's presidential debate about Joe the plumber. Joe lives in Ohio, so we couldn't get to him. Instead, we talked to Al the plumber about issues important to him this election season. South side plumber Al Knapinski says when he watched the debate Wednesday night he felt like the candidates were talking to him. He says he was very interested in many of the issues they discussed. “Health care is very important, the economy that’s obvious,” Al said. Like a lot of small business owners, Al says he's hurting. He's worried about the worsening economy and how it will affect his chances of getting his next job. “It’s incredibly tough. The competition for work is incredible. You might lose a job over a few dollars,” Al explained. From where he sits, the future looks bleak. The cost of plumbing supplies is going up, and customers are reluctant to get work done. “I can only hope in time the economy corrects itself and there’ll be a bigger demand for service plumbers and that's what I’ll be doing now,” Al said. This election, Al says he's voting his pocket book. He's supporting Barack Obama because he thinks he has the best vision for America. “We've had 8 years of a disaster is what I would say and now you’re looking to the future and we need change and I think Barack is going to bring the change we need,” Al said. Al says even if Obama wins, he's not certain he'll be able to fix all of our country's problems. He's just hoping he'll fix the economy so he can get some more business.
