Local NewsMidwest Airlines' Pilots Picketing WednesdayBy Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - Upset over job cuts and outsourcing, Midwest Airlines’ pilots picketed three Milwaukee businesses Wednesday.
They're telling Midwest customers the best care in the air is threatened by the company's decision to let other pilots fly their planes.
The whole point of the protest is to put pressure on big companies that buy a lot of Midwest Airlines tickets.
Picketing occurred at Northwestern Mutual Life and U.S. Bank Wednesday morning, and more picketing was planned at Miller Coors later Wednesday.
The protest centers on Midwest’s decision to cut back on their big Boeing planes flown by Midwest employees and switching main routes to Brazilian Regional jets flown by outside pilots.
The picketing also comes as the union meets with Midwest management near the airport to talk about having Midwest union pilots take over flying the Brazilian Regional jets.
“Northwestern Mutual as well as U.S. Bank and Miller Coors and many other organizations in the Milwaukee area have been instrumental in the success of this airline over the years, and we hope they realize and can help support our cause to try and continue the best care in the air,” Midwest pilot Jake Southern said.
We should point out, the outside pilots are also in a labor union, making this two unions going after the same jobs, but when asked about the union-versus-union battle, the picketers won't say their union is better than the other. This is all about fighting for their own paychecks.
