Jessica Cody Marquette Student Charged In StabbingBy Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - Charges were filed against a Marquette student Tuesday. She's accused of stabbing a fellow student and causing serious injuries to her face.
For the first time Tuesday, we saw the suspect, a Marquette student, accused of stabbing two people inside a downtown bar.
Jessica Cody, 19, made her first court appearance to face two charges of first degree recklessly endangering safety.
According to the criminal complaint, Cody got into an argument with two 20-year-old women inside Sullivan’s Bar on Water Street. The complaint says she pulled out a switchblade and stabbed the woman several times.
Frantic 911 calls quickly came in.
Dispatcher: “This is 911, do you have an emergency?”
Caller #1: “Yes. There are two people that just got stabbed outside of Sullivan’s.”
Dispatcher: “How may I help you?”
Caller #2: “I'm at Sullivan’s on Water Street. My girlfriend is bleeding.”
Monday, TODAY’S TMJ4’s Melanie Stout spoke with that girlfriend. Katlynn Dallmann has 43 stitches on her arm and around her eye. She said she used to live in a dorm with the suspect, but didn't know her personally. She wouldn't say what they were fighting about.
“I definitely didn't expect it to go that far. I didn't expect the stabbing to take place to me and my friend,” Dallmann said.
Cody is studying education and political science. Her attorney says she's involved in a lot of campus activities. Her future at the university is unclear now.
Tuesday, the judge set bail and ordered she not have any contact with the victims or visit any bars along Water Street. He also ordered she be placed on electronic monitoring if she meets bail.
