MILWAUKEE - An assistant school principal is charged with sexually assaulting a child.
Gilberto Brown is in jail, suspended from Lincoln Avenue School on the city's south side. Brown, 54, is accused of repeatedly touching a teenager, inappropriately.
According to the criminal complaint, the teen claims he was assaulted when he spent the night at Brown's Milwaukee apartment. The victim is now 18 but told police the sexual contact with Brown started when he was 14 years old.
The Milwaukee Public School system tells us the teen was never a student at Lincoln Avenue, but that's of little comfort for some parents.
"Very, very shocked, and it's sad," said Vernetta Rhodes.
Her daughter goes to Lincoln Avenue. She's worried this might have happened to another child.
"It's probably children that are scared to come forward," said Rhodes. "There was another one if he got away with that one for that long."
We stopped by Brown's current house, to see if anyone would comment. No one was home and Brown is in jail.
Last week, the district put Brown on leave, common practice for MPS as it waits for the court process to play out.
Rhodes was relieved to hear he's no longer in the building.
"I wouldn't want my child coming back to that school if he's still there. Not at all," Rhodes said.
The victim claims the assaults happened at least three times over a two year period.
MPS has not yet released an official statement on the situation.
