There was a huge turnout in Cedarburg as the Republican presidential and vice-presidential candidates made their first campaign stop after the convention.
Officials estimate 20,000 to 30,000 people were standing on the streets of downtown Cedarburg Friday morning for a chance to see McCain and Palin. Y
A lively, enthusiastic group gave the Republican team a warm Cedarburg welcome. It was their first post-convention stop.
“This turnout in Cedarburg is what our campaign is all about,” McCain said.
McCain thinks if he can get support all over the country like he has in Cedarburg, then he will have no problem winning in November.
“We're gonna win this election. We're gonna be the ones that win this election,” McCain said.
The Arizona senator says that will happen with Governor Sarah Palin on the ticket.
The crowd agreed.
“I’m so excited about Sarah Palin. I have three young daughters and for them to see her speak. She's strong and smart, she is. I'm so thrilled to have her on the ticket,” Lisa Jessup from Cedarburg said.
McCain also sold the crowd on his plan to create more jobs, achieve energy independence and move this country forward.
“I really feel McCain and Palin are the ticket to create more jobs and create more positive America,” Michelle Rishel from Grafton said.
The McCain camp chose Cedarburg because they wanted that small town America feel and that's what they got because they had several supporters inside businesses watching…and of course, McCain did make a stop in a few of the businesses in downtown Cedarburg as well.
