Investigators: Shooting Death Of Boy A Terrible Accident

By Katie DeLong

JOHNSON CREEK - We learned more Friday about the death of an 11-year-old boy in Johnson Creek. The boy was shot to death Thursday. Joshua Nimm went to Johnson Creek Elementary School. Friday, students and faculty were trying to cop with this tragic death. Johnson Creek had counselors on standby to help people handle their grief. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says Nimm accidentally shot himself one time in the head with a .22 caliber rifle. "The magazine was out of the rifle which would indicate to me that the average person would think it was not loaded,” a sheriff’s department official said. This is the Mimm family's second brush with tragedy in a year. Nimm's father was part of a group of snowmobilers that crashed the ice on the Rock River in winter. Two people died. Families whose kids attended school with Nimm are shocked by his death. They are praying for his family. "It's stunning. The thought of losing my child accidentally or otherwise. I can't imagine,” one parent said. The gun did belong to Nimm and was purchased legally by his parents. The young boy and his dad liked to target shoot.
