As the squad car approached, the suspect fired at the officers. The squad car drove up on the sidewalk, across the lawn, and smashed into the front porch of a home, destroying the porch. The 19-year-old man with the gun was found in the rubble and taken into custody. He was treated for minor bumps and bruises. One officer, a 24-year-old woman, was treated for leg and hip injures and returned to work. The other officer, a 30-year-old man, was not hurt. The bizarre incident happened early Sunday morning on 20th Ave. near 62nd Street. A woman and two kids inside the home were not hurt. The officers were responding to a stabbing in the neighborhood when they spotted the man firing the gun. Other officers located the stabbing victim, who was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators are trying to figure out if the two incidents are connected. Jeff Doeher owns the house that was damaged. He spent the day cleaning up. "I was shocked, shock and awe," he said. Doeher's upset with the 19-year-old man who apparently started this all...and so are police. Sergeant Hugh Rafferty tells TODAY'S TMJ4, the two officers had to make a split second decision. "The only option they had was to make contact with the subject with the vehicle," he said. "Fortunately, no significant injuries were sustained." The 19-year-old suspect was identified as Narciso Esquivel of Kenosha. He's being held at the county jail. Officers recovered a 9mm Glock at the scene. The gun was stolen in July from a home in the Town of Somers.
