Fatal Boat Crash Near Kenosha Harbor

By Associated Press

KENOSHA - One man died and two others were injured when a 17-foot boat crashed in Kenosha Harbor early Sunday morning. A passenger called 911 around 1:25 a.m. to report that the boat slammed into the harbor's break wall at high speed. The Coast Guard sent two boats and a helicopter to the scene and were able to pull the two passengers from the water. The driver of the boat -- 31-year-old Daniel Eddy -- died at the scene. A 26-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with a spinal injury and another man received minor injuries, the Coast Guard said. None of the three boaters were wearing a life jacket and alcohol played a factor in the crash, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Collins, from Coast Guard Station Kenosha. "They just hit (the wall) moving very fast," he said. "I can tell you nobody on board was wearing a life jacket. In this case, I'm not sure if that would have mattered, but in the three years I've worked here, I never lost anyone who was wearing one." The Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation.
