CALEDONIA – Thugs vandalized their park, and now, people in Caledonia want to know how they can prevent that from happening again. It happened last week at Caledonia - Mount Pleasant Memorial Park. Parks Department leaders and community members met Thursday night. They want to know who did serious damage to the park. A few days ago, someone came into the park at night with a chainsaw. The vandal cut down three trees, scattered garbage everywhere, tore down signs and fences and looted bathrooms. It could cost thousands to replant the trees. Part of what is driving the concern is that the park was a true community collaboration. Thousands of people donated their own time and money to build the playground, and it is really a meeting place for families in Racine County. At the meeting Thursday night, parks officials decided they will now close the gates at night at Caledonia Mount Pleasant Park. They’ve also set up a reward for information about the vandalism.
