Arrest Made In Death Of Woman, 70

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUKEE - A homeless man is in custody for killing a 70-year-old woman near 12th and Becher on Milwaukee’s south side. "She was a good woman. She helped anyone and everybody,” the victim’s niece Marlis Gagliano said. Family members like Gagliano knew something was wrong when Cecilia Love did not show up at the hospital to sit by the bedside of her son who is in a coma. "They say he's brain dead. He responds to her though. Now, she's not there anymore,” Gagliano explained. Relatives reported Love missing Wednesday. Then early Thursday one of those family members found her body wrapped up underneath the porch in the backyard. "My son started screaming, ‘I found her, under the porch,’” Love’s niece, Kathy Haughlie said. Police arrested a 44-year-old homeless man who Love invited to live in her home this summer. Love apparently asked him to move out this week. Family members who gathered in disbelief at the south side home say they saw the suspect. "He had a bump on his head this big, a gash that big, his hands all beat up,” Haughlie said. Gagliano cannot believe her aunt is gone. "She was a very loving person and I don't understand why anyone would want to hurt her. She's beautiful inside and out," Gagliano said. Relatives believe Love tried to get the man to leave earlier this week.
