Child Left On Day Care Bus
By George Mallet
MILWAUKEE - Jo’s Daycare Academy is a clean facility with a largely unblemished state record. But earlier this month, the day care endured a significant black eye.
On the afternoon of July 10, a 1-year-old boy was left alone on a bus in the daycare’s west side parking lot.
“I mean, he was so helpless,” said K’alyn Knight’s father, Lynn Knight. “Every time I get in my hot car, I just think of what my son was going through.”
To her credit, the owner of Jo’s Daycare Academy isn’t dodging questions about the incident. Schnell Price-Lambert says it should not have happened. She maintains she took quick action upon learning of the incident.
“The driver was immediately terminated,” she said firmly.
What still bothers Knight, however, is that he has no idea how much time his son spent on that bus on an 82 degree afternoon. It is not a question Price-Lambert was able to answer for us.
“I don’t have an exact time of how long the child was on the van,” Price-Lambert said.
The incident was immediately reported to the state by the daycare staff. Milwaukee police also investigated what happened and determined nothing criminal occurred. Still, Knight said he and his girlfriend will not put their baby back in the daycare.
For her part, Schnell Price-Lambert says she’d very much like to meet with the baby’s parents.
