Puppy Mill Purchase Boosts Adoptions
By Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee bought out a notorious puppy mill Friday, and now, hundreds of puppies are up for adoption.
All weekend, the place was crowded with dog lovers looking to adopt.
Jimmy Reinhart hopes someday to be a veterinarian.
“I love dogs and my mom promised me a dog this year,” Reinhart said.
After playing with puppies at the Humane Society, he learned something about dogs.
“That they love me,” Reinhart said.
Now, mom has to come through on the promise, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem for Katie Reinhart.
“We just wanted to reach out to them and show them that we have a good home, we can love these animals and give them a good home,” Katie Reinhart said.
The Humane Society expects to have 1,200 dogs available for adoption after buying out a puppy mill.
Here’s some advice if you’re thinking about adopting for the first time:
“Think about what type of animal, are they read to bring a companion animal into the home, bring the family down to meet all the animals, and select the one that’s most appropriate for their family,”
We’re told all the dogs will be checked and evaluated before going out for adoption.
Ray and Diane Turner headed to the Humane Society after seeing the news about puppy mill rescue. They’ve adopted before.
“I see on I used to have years ago. It’s kind of difficult to leave without taking a dog with you. It really hurts,” Ray Turner said.
Monday, officials from the Humane Society will again travel to the puppy mill to pick up more dogs.
If you’re interested in adopting one of them, the center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
