Exclusive: Golfer Robbed At Country Club Speaks

By Charles Benson

BROWN DEER - It was a round of golf Jon Schweitzer would rather forget. The armed robbery over the Fourth of July weekend was the second in seven days. The other one was at Brynwood Country Club just down the road. When Jon Schweitzer reached the third hole, it wasn't a bunker that threw him off his game, but a bad guy. "A guy holding a gun with a mask, hopping around telling us to be quiet and empty our pockets," said Schweitzer. Schweitzer was playing in a foursome with three caddies at Tripoli Country Club. All seven were asked to come up with some cash. After quickly coming to the conclusion the robber meant business, Schweitzer suddenly realized there was another problem with the potential to make the situation even worse. "That's actually when I feared for myself for the first time, because I didn't have a dime on me. I didn't have a watch or a ring. I didn't have anything," Schweitzer said. It turns out it didn't matter, the robber got enough from the others. "To have that happen, it was so startling, so sudden," said Schweitzer. "It made us all pretty angry after a period of time after we got over the fear." TODAY'S TMJ4's Charles Benson: "Will it go down as the worse round you've ever played?" "It sure will," said Schweitzer. "I was playing well up until the third hole and it didn't get any better." Schweitzer and his foursome continued playing after talking with police. He feels safe playing there and says what happened at Tripoli could have happened anywhere. Police are still looking for the robber.
