MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Zoo honored the armed forces over the holiday weekend with Operation Freedom. Sunday, vets, reservists and those on active duty and their families got in free. The event also taught veterans which benefits they’re eligible for. Organizers say it’s a way to thank the military for its service to America. “Having a wholesome activity, a day at the Milwaukee County Zoo, just a beautiful facility for these families to get together and enjoy themselves. It’s just a wonderful event,” David Kurtz of the Wisconsin American Legion said. In addition to free zoo admission, military members and their families also got to enjoy free rides, food and entertainment.
