Local NewsLook Inside Movie Set At Historical SocietyBy Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - Now you can stand right where Johnny Depp shot Public Enemies!
The crew gave the Milwaukee County Historical Society a makeover for the movie. Now, it's open to the public.
It looks just like an early 20th century bank, which at one time it was, but for the first time, we're seeing how Hollywood converted the Milwaukee County Historical Society into a movie set.
The refurbishing has helped the society's goals in a big way.
“The work that they carried out probably saved us in the range of $125,000 to $150,000 in terms of restoration efforts we would've had to pay for down the road,” Historical Society Executive Director Bob Teske said.
Craftsmen really did bring Hollywood magic to the grand old Milwaukee building. For instance, a counter is made out of medium density fiberboard painted over and over again to look like granite, there is wallpaper on wood fashioned to look like marble, and teller booths are made out of wood painted to look like metal.
“It was quite interesting so we made a trip to come out here because of this,” Visitor Steven Schnaufer said.
The society plans to keep the set available for viewing until the end of July.
