MILWAUKEE – Former Milwaukee alderman Michael McGee Jr. was back in state court Thursday.
He was convicted of bribery and extortion in federal court last week.
McGee now faces state charges for elections fraud and threatening to have a man beaten.
McGee’s attorney plans to proceed with the state trial, despite the federal conviction.
“Why should he take a plea deal? Mr. McGee believes that he is innocent. We believe that he is innocent and I can tell you empathically Mr. McGee will continue with his plea of not guilty and we will go to trial,” McGee’s Attorney, Larry Jarrett said.
McGee will be sentenced in federal court in late October. His state trial is set to begin December 8th.
