Local NewsStorm Sends Chimney To Porch In Racine Co.By Michael George
BURLINGTON - A fast moving storm caused damage throughout Racine County on Friday.
Michael Orr of Burlington found his chimney on his front porch, thanks to the storm.
"All of a sudden I heard, like a train, coming through. And so I ran down to the basement like a scared little baby," Orr joked.
When Orr came back outside just minutes later, he found his front porch and backyard had been turned upside-down.
"My desk was destroyed, and my chimney was blown off my roof. And I start looking around my neighborhood and just a line of trees and branches being down," Orr said.
The storm caused problems all over Racine County. Workers spent the night cutting down trees that tangled in power lines. Witnesses say the storm came and left quickly.
Orr cleaned up most of the damage Friday evening. But he knows he's not done paying.
"I say, insurance bill is going up," Orr said.
When storms fire, we often rely on storm chasers to capture what's going on in the sky.
Friday in Racine County, a local man caught Mother Nature, in action.
"These storms are moving very fast today, they’re difficult to chase," David Casper said.
Casper was following ominous clouds as they raced across southeastern Wisconsin.
“Ya, I always try to get close but far enough away to stay in a safe position,” said Casper.
He's looking for a tornado, camera rolling. Casper shot some of his best storm video on I-94 near Highway 20. He is always aware of the danger.
“We might just need to be careful here. We’re probably going to be in an area where we’re going to get some redevelopment here," Casper said.
TODAY'S TMJ4 Photojournalist, Ira Klusendorf, shot the beginnings of a funnel cloud, also in Racine County. You can see the funnel dropping from a wall of clouds. It never actually touched the ground.
As the wind tore through our area and sirens sounded, Casper didn't see a tornado, but he did witness Mother Nature's power.
