MILWAUKEE - A mob beat a Milwaukee man who stopped after his car struck a young girl. The accident happened Monday night. The man stopped to get help for the 3-year-old girl who ran in front of his car. That's when the trouble started. We are told the little girl's condition is improving and she's doing much better. Now, the driver himself will have to go through surgery after he was beaten by a mob. The driver of the car didn't want to be identified for fear of retaliation. He said he saw the little girl in a yard from a distance and slowed down. “She flashed just like that. I hit the brakes and didn't skid or nothing cause I seen her, you know, and I’m out in the streets and I was hollering ‘call 911,’” the driver said. Someone grabbed the child and this grandfather says his only concern was getting help for the toddler. “I mean, it scared me to death when it’s a little kid and I thank God that I wasn't going fast. I probably wasn't going the speed limit,” the driver said. Even though he stopped, an angry mob quickly formed. The driver says he was punched and kicked all over the face and body. “They jumped me and I couldn't get back in my car so I had to run. I ran up the street and I came back when the fire department came,” the driver said. He returned and the mob jumped him again. It stopped when firefighters let him hide in their truck until police arrived. Someone from the crowd even stole his car. Now, he has broken bones, constant pain, can't work and needs surgery. He's extremely grateful the child is improving. “I'm sorry for what happened, but whoever was in charge of the kid they should pay close attention and I don't know what they was doing partying or whatnot and it was late and it was dark and there was no way a little kid should be that far away from you,” the driver said.
