Local NewsFourth Grader Brings Gun To SchoolBy Katie DeLong
CUDAHY - Cudahy parents are on edge after a fourth grader brought a loaded gun to school Thursday.
That student and his father could face criminal charges.
The gun was found inside the student’s desk at Lincoln Elementary. Parents of other kids at the school just can't believe it.
“It was just shocking. Real shocking,” Tina Limon said.
Limon was appalled when she found out a fourth grader at her son's school brought in a loaded gun.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Melissa McCrady: “Does it make you nervous?”
“Oh yeah, yeah, very nervous. I mean at that age. Yeah,” Limon said.
Cudahy police say the 10-year-old student got the gun from his father’s locked cabinet and took it to school. He told another student he had it. That student told a teacher, who then found it in the fourth graders desk before anything bad happened.
“It was actually shocking. We're just glad there wasn't any threats and nothing bad happened,” parent Holly Siegel said.
The district attorney’s office is investigating both the child and his 58-year-old father. Charges could come as early as next Tuesday.
The student was immediately released to his parents after the incident.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Melissa McCrady asked the school district if the student has been suspended or expelled, but they have yet to return the phone call.
