Restaurant Is Total Loss After Fire
By Diane Pathieu
BROOKFIELD - A long-time restaurant is a complete loss.
It happened in the town of Brookfield on Greenfield Avenue and Avondale, where fire gutted the Silver Spur BBQ Restaurant.
The fire was massive, completely swallowing the restaurant. Firefighters think the fire started near the back.
The good news is that o one is injured, but fighting the fire was a challenge.
“One of the challenges was the water because it's a non-hydrant area so we use what we call a water shuttle service,” Brookfield Assistant Fire Chief Tony D’Amico said.
It took hours to get the fire out, with many area departments helping out. When it was finally under control, it was time to tackle the hot spots.
The property owner said checking out the inside of the building and watching it go up in flames was completely heartbreaking. In fact, the people that own the restaurant itself are still very shaken up.
“Devestated. I loved the property. It's a wonderful property. We put an addition on it at about 2000 and had a lot done on the building over the years,” Property Owner Ralph Hibbard said.
So what's next for the owners? Picking up the pieces and deciding whether or not to rebuild.
