High Gas Prices Affecting Food Prices

  • Print
MILWAUKEE - High gas prices have something to do with the high food prices. Milk, eggs, you name it...it's higher. Now, places like Sam’s Club are limiting the amount of rice people can buy. It turns out, the limit on rice at Sam's Club isn't the only thing in the news. Almost every grocery store you go to...you'll see an increase in food prices. "I think it's ridiculous. It's really hard to make your ends meet,” Deborah Jeter said. Jeter lives it. A trip to the grocery store takes a little bit more of her hard earned money than in years...even months past. Now, news comes...the two biggest U.S. warehouse chains: Sam's Club and Costco, are limiting how much rice customers can buy. “Then I was listening this morning, I heard about the rice going up,” Jeter said. It's just more bad news for Jeter, who shops all the time for her family and is definitely feeling the pinch. “Eggs are really off the chart,” Jeter said. In fact, according the Wall Street Journal, milk is up 30 percent over the past year. Rice is up 13 percent and milk is up 10 percent. "It definitely impacts my family and it makes me really make wiser choices because it's affecting my entire state of being right now,” Jeter said. Experts believe the prices are not going down any time soon, if ever. The bottom line, their advice: buy in bulk.
