Local NewsRaw Video: Wrapping Up Marquette Interchange ProjectBy Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - Work on the Marquette Interchange is almost complete.
It's on schedule and on budget.
Contractors on the Marquette Interchange reached a milestone Wednesday, which means the work is moving right along.
That has motorists pretty excited.)
“It will be nice,” Andrea Hoessel said.
Hoessel is happy the end is near. In about six months she and everyone else will be driving through the Marquette Interchange construction free!
“It does get pretty packed downtown trying to drive through and traffic there is kind of goofy because there's not a lot of room,” Hoessel said.
“I think a lot of people will be happy it's about over,” Hoessel said.
Contractors just completed a major step. They laid the last of 1,400 steel girders. The girders create a substructure for bridges and ramps.
“A lot of nights weekends, working in snow storms, rain storms, and to finally see the last truck through here is a huge accomplishment,” Marquette Interchange Project Director Brady Frederick said.
If everything continues as planned and the weather cooperates, work on the huge project will be done in November.
“Be rest assured we're putting our best foot forward and putting all our resources at it to get it done,” Frederick said.
Commuters can still expect some closures this summer on ramps and lanes. Crews estimate a lot of work will be done overnight.
