MILWAUKEE - A Northwest DC-9 airliner that became stuck in the mud after landing at Mitchell International Airport disrupted flights for more than two hours Saturday morning. Airport spokeswoman Pat Rowe said the incident took place when a Northwest Airlines flight was turning off the north-south runway onto a taxiway after landing on a flight from Minneapolis about 8:15 a.m. There was heavy lake effect snow falling at the time. The reason that the wheel left the asphalt was not immediately determined, she said. There were 58 passengers and a crew of five on the flight, which was No. 795, Northwest spokesman Dean Breest said. Only one of the three landing wheels left the asphalt, he said, and the plane was moved within 90 minutes. Rowe said the airport's east-west runway was closed at the time of the landing due to a couple of inches of snow, but it was then cleared and flights started on it about 10:30 a.m. No one was injured and the passengers on the DC-9 were taken on a shuttle to the terminal, she said.
