Local NewsJensen Juror: "Sorry It Took Ten Years"By Katie DeLong
ELKHORN - A jury found Mark Jensen guilty of first-degree murder Thursday in the wife poisoning trial in Walworth County.
The jury deliberated for more than 30 hours.
In a stunning and unusual move, they talked about the case immediately after the verdict.
One juror said, if she could talk to Julie right now, she would say "I’m sorry it took 10 years."
"Julie has justice now. She can sleep now. It's ok," one juror said.
It wasn't an easy decision for this group of jurors. Deliberations started with only five of them believing Mark Jensen poisoned his wife, Julie.
"It was hard, it was just hard," one juror said.
It ended with all 12 wanting to send Mark Jensen to jail.
"It took a long time, but he's going where he needs to be," one juror said.
Sandra Schott was the last juror to agree. She claims re-examining a letter Julie wrote to police before she died, convinced her that Julie did not commit suicide.
"I feel that we served justice today, and I am so comfortable with my decision, I can't begin to tell you," Sandra Schott said.
Once again, they're all in agreement that Julie will forever be near and dear to their hearts. Her family is grateful.
"I’m just so happy the jury was able to see Julie plain and clearly for who she was," Julie Jensen’s brother said.
The jurors came to the decision around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. They insist it is no coincidence that the decision was made at the same time, on the same day of the week, Julie was found dead nine years ago.
