The flames ravaged the building piece by piece.
What started in the kitchen on the first floor, took only a half hour for fire to destroy the building.
Fire crews gave up the fight.
“We went defensive 30 to 45 minutes into the fire call,” Kenosha Fire Department Battalion Chief Wes Bernhardt said.
In an area with thriving businesses, the restaurant was a sort of favorite, known for food and delicious pie. It is now reduced to nothing.
The fire also caused problems for fire crews. With the subzero temperatures, water being sprayed into and on the building was quickly freezing on the ground, making the area icy.
“We brought in public works and salt trucks to clear the ice,” Bernhardt said.
Daylight reveals what is left of the place, and investigators have moved in to figure out what happened.
About two dozen residents from surrounding homes had to be evacuated as a precaution.
There were no injuries.
