Local NewsJensen Trial: Phone Calls Between Jensen, MomBy Katie DeLong
ELKHORN - Wednesday’s testimony in the wife poisoning trial in Walworth County involves phone conversations of Mark Jensen from inside jail.
Wednesday, for the first time, the jury heard from Mark Jensen.
On one call, Jensen’s mother offered to help her son with his case.
“I am the damnest best research you need me to do and I am willing to do anything at all. Period," Jensen’s mom said.
The state says Mark Jensen asked his mother to help him with his plan to get rid of a prosecution witness, without her knowledge.
Jensen asks her to give money to a woman named Kim.
Kim is engaged to Jensen’s cellmate who testified Jensen planned to pay him $1,000 to temporarily get rid of a key prosecution witness.
Jensen’s mom: “I called Kim and she said she was going to call her husband tonight."
Mark Jensen: "Was she able to explain any of this to you?"
Jensen’s mom: "Nope. She didn't say a word.”
On another call, the jury heard Jensen talking about making money off the trial.
“You guys could probably get a $1 million book deal out of this."
"Sure can."
"We need to do whatever we possibly can to make sure that we come out on the winning side of this."
A forensic toxicologist took the stand Wednesday afternoon.
He testified Julie Jensen was murdered because of the amount of ethylene glycol found in her body.
The defense says she committed suicide.
