Puppy Mill Investigation In Fond du Lac County

  • Print
KENOSHA - Authorities found a puppy mill earlier this week in the Town of Lamartine in Fond du Lac County. The owner is now in Kenosha County. The woman is in the process of moving to a house in the Town of Paris. She said she's getting out of the dog business, but with the investigation in Fond du Lac County, people in Kenosha County are concerned. The woman didn't want to talk on camera and drove away. She did say she's not going to breed dogs anymore now that she lives in Kenosha County. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department thinks she should be charged with failing to provide food and shelter for animals there. Investigators found about 70 dogs on her land in the Town of Lamartine packed into cages and covered with feces. There were also two dead puppies on the grounds. The Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha is one of the groups that are going to keep an eye on the situation to make sure animals aren't mistreated. “It's not our jurisdiction but we're still the humane society so we're going to do what we can to make sure that it's not continuing,” Safe Harbor Humane Society’s Tonya Howell said. The woman might already have a problem in the Town of Paris. The town president stopped by Friday. He could see five dogs through the window of her house. That appears to violate a town ordinance that limits homeowners to three animals. So the town is deciding what to do.
