Local NewsBig, Last Minute Shopping Days This WeekendBy Katie DeLong
GLENDALE - If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping, you're not alone.
The next couple days are expected to be the biggest shopping weekend this year, as people try to get those last minute holiday gifts.
Believe it or not, consumers are slated to spend $27 billion this weekend alone. You think Friday's busy, come back Saturday.
If there is a stereotypical male shopper...this guy would be it.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Jay Olstad: “When did you start?
“This morning. I woke up and decided I needed to do some shopping,” Dave Forshette said.
He's just one of thousands of last minute shoppers who are on a quest this weekend to find that perfect Christmas gift…or anything they can get their hands on.
"I just came from the jewelry store there and that's all I’m going to say about that,” Forshette said.
"This week has really picked up. Yesterday and today are busy days and we're expecting a very busy day tomorrow and Sunday,” Bud Schneider of Bayshore Town Center said.
In fact, Saturday is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year. Experts say to survive the crowds shop early or late. That's the least busy time of the day.
Also, have a plan of attack. For example, start your shopping earlier next year.
"After this, I go home and do cards,” Forshette said with a laugh.
Another tip: if you’re looking for a parking spot at Bayshore, use the parking lots. They’re free and a lot of people don’t use them.
If shopping isn’t your thing…
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Jay Olstad: "You look thrilled.”
“No it's not just gifts, I got about 22 cards to send out too," Forshette said.
Mayfair and Brookfield Square shopping malls are offering something new this year.
"What we're doing is combining the clicks with the bricks,” Nancy Conley said.
It's called nearbynow.com. All you have to do is go to the site and type in the brand name and it will tell you where in Mayfair or Brookfield that item is located and how many are left.
"And they can put it on hold so when they come to the mall they can go right to the store. It makes it very easy for them,” Conley said.
If you're like some people who want absolutely nothing to do with shopping malls...there's east side Milwaukee boutique Fran Hill.
“Women can write up a wish list for their significant other and all the guys have to do is call them up, pick an item from the list and pay for it,” Kelly Ehley said.
If going into the store isn't your thing, Fran Hill will come to you curbside with the present wrapped and ready to go.
If that's not enough, Saturday there's this.
"We're having a men shopping day and we're going to have beer, chips, a free tool set for every purchase for them to feel macho,” Ehley said.
All in an effort to get men shopping, whether they like it or not.
