Puppies Need Homes

  • Print
MILWAUKEE - When weather turned wintry and roads got bad this week, puppy adoptions dropped dramatically. The Wisconsin Humane Society said they would normally have 20 to 30 puppies available for adoption this time of year. As of Friday morning, 62 puppies were available. WHS classifies puppies as dogs less than one year old. Click on the slideshow link to see pictures of puppies available for adoption. "There are puppies of all sizes, all breeds, all temperaments," said Angela Speed, WHS spokesperson. "There's fuzzy puppies, little fat puppies, just a lot of dogs that really need to find homes for the holidays." Most of the puppies available this week came from overcrowded shelters in Indiana and Kentucky. The humane society in Milwaukee remains below capacity, but they would like to find homes for these dogs soon. "It is a little bit unusual for the puppies to be here this long," Speed explained. "A lot of times throughout the year we have a lot of puppies and the turnaround time is usually a day or two, but a few of these dogs have been here for a week or even more." Roxy, an American Pitbull Terrier, is available for $125. That's the starting fee for an adoption. The cost can go up as high as $250, according to Speed. The Wisconsin Humane Society is a non-profit organization with no links to government animal control. WHS does not euthanize animals based on the time they are in the shelter and maintains a mission to save animals lives.
