Local NewsNun Guilty In Sex Abuse CaseBy Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE – A historic case in the Milwaukee County Courthouse: a nun is found guilty of sexual abuse.
A judge found nun Norma Giannini guilty of abuse after she pleaded no contest to charges of indecent behavior with a child.
The incidents involved boys at a Catholic elementary school in Milwaukee 40 years ago.
The nun pleaded no contest.
Now, the victims say they hope they can begin the healing process. Their emotions are still very raw.
“We were raped. We were raped,” Jim Saint Patrick said.
Jim Saint Patrick and Jerry Kobs are still in a lot of pain 40 years after they say they were repeatedly sexually assaulted by Sister Norma Giannini.
“It’s very hard to describe. It took so long, so many years to get here and to finally hear her admit it herself. It’s close to the end for us,” Jerry Kobs said.
The victims say the abuse happened during the 1960s when they were just teenagers at Saint Patrick School. Sister Norma was the principal.
They say the nun abused them at the school, inside her convent and even in their homes.
“I don’t think she knows the depth of what happened. I don’t think she can handle that. It’s like going into a horror movie to me. She’s like Dracula to me,” Jim Saint Patrick said.
Monday, a judge found Sister Norma guilty of molesting the boys. We asked for her side of the story.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Ty Milburn: “These are some pretty shocking charges that you plead no contest to Sister. Is there anything you like to say for yourself Sister?”
Ty Milburn: “Sister, is there anything you’d like to say to the victims?”
“Nothing, she’s not making any statement so don’t waste your time,” a spokesperson said.
Whether she talks or not, Jim and Jerry are relieved she was found guilty. However, they don’t think she’s sorry for what she did. They say they look forward to telling their side of the story when they take the stand for the nun’s sentencing.
