Local NewsFormer Teacher Accused of Sexual AbuseBy Ty Milburn
WEST ALLIS - A popular teacher and coach is accused of having sexual relations with at least one student more than a dozen times, and it allegedly happened at a Christian school.
The teacher hasn't worked at the school since 1999 and school officials say they have not had contact with him since then, but the news has a lot of parents here quite concerned. They say this is not the type of behavior you expect from a teacher at a Christian school. The news was disturbing.
“It's shocking and unfortunate and I pray to God that it never happens to my son,” parent Claudia Arbonella said.
Parents of students at Heritage Christian School are learning that a former teacher and soccer coach named Jason Crary is charged with having sexual contact with a student. The victim told a detective it happened at least a dozen times.
“I am shocked and very sorry to hear this because we send our children here and pay privately to get better education and better teaching,” grandparent Bonne Nillson said.
According to the criminal complaint, Jason Crary started abusing the then 16-year-old girl a decade ago in his Milwaukee home. At the time, he was a teacher and a coach at Heritage Christian and she was his teaching assistant.
“I am saddened that this has happened, I am. It's a wrong choice that this teacher has made,” parent Faith Ladd said.
School officials didn't want to discuss the case on camera, but they released a statement saying: “We are saddened by the news and we are cooperating with authorities. We are praying for all involved. We have had no contact with him since.”
Jason Crary is teaching and coaching at a school in Columbus, Ohio. He was arrested at that school Monday and he will have an extradition hearing on Thursday.
Prosecutors say the victim, who is now 27, will be a very credible witness when the trial begins.
