City Officials Want To Close Gang House

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County officials have filed a public nuisance action against the owner of a criminal gang house. The lawsuit was filed by members of the Community Prosecution Unit of the City Attorney’s Office. The civil suit alleges that the Milwaukee Police Department has identified two rival criminal gangs, the Asian Crips and M.O.D. (“Method of Destruction”) as the source of violent acts against each other. On Aug. 4, 2007, about four hours after a drive-by shooting at Brown Deer Park where a M.O.D. gang member was wounded, three people were shot in a garage at 10031 West Juniper Street while attending a beer and card party involving individuals alleged to be current or former Asian Crip members. The criminal complaint further alleges the residence has been the scene of a number of criminal occurrences during the past nine months. All of the previous calls for police service indicated the suspects were members of the rival M.O.D. criminal gang and the damage was committed to intimidate or retaliate against the Asian Crips. The City would like to declare the house a nuisance, close it and ultimately order it sold. They will also attempt to close another criminal gang house associated with this violent spree of intimidation. City Attorney Grant Langley said “the citizens in this neighborhood, just as in all the neighborhoods of this City, have the right to live free from this type of behavior. I will continue to pressure owners of nuisance properties to either remedy the situation quickly or leave.”
