Local NewsBrookfield East Football Field VandalizedBy Katie DeLong
BROOKFIELD - Brookfield East High School employees are cleaning up after a disgusting act of vandalism.
Someone used bolt cutters to break through a locked gate and drive a vehicle all over the field.
Using a truck or an SUV, they carved huge donuts and figure 8's into the grass. The field was already wet and muddy, so the vehicle left deep ruts and tore up the turf.
That ruined things for Brookfield East, the day before their big home-opening game.
Now, the home team is homeless. They used a practice field Thursday, but they were supposed to play Cudahy at the stadium Friday night.
But now, that can't happen. The home game has been delayed until Saturday, and it's been moved to Brookfield Central.
That has put a damper on the game everyone has been looking forward to.
"We're disappointed," quarterback Justin Wagner said. "It hurts, we love playing here."
It's going to take weeks to repair the field. Everyone is hoping it will be up and running in time for the homecoming game in late September.
Head coach Joel Sciortino said, "We may be vagabonds for a while, but hey, we're just going to play ball and see how it goes."
It's going to take more than $10,000 to fix the field.
Brookfield police are offering a reward for information about the people who did the vandalism.
