Man "Forgot" He Had Already Voted
By Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - A jury found a man guilty of illegal voting after he claimed he simply forgot he had voted when he went in a polling place and cast another ballot in last November's election.
Michael Zore, 44, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with felony counts of double voting and providing false information to a poll worker.
Evidence showed Zore voted in Wauwatosa and later signed up to vote using a false address in West Allis.
Zore's lawyer Raymond Clark said Zore was under intense stress at the time because his sister died a week earlier, his wages were under garnishment to pay back taxes, he was divorced a year earlier and he had his master's degree class on election day canceled.
Clark said Zore was running an errand when he happened to be across the street from City Hall in West Allis and decided to go in to vote, forgetting he already voted.
"It is hard to believe, I don't discount that at all," Clark told the jury. "But it did happen."
Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf told jurors to discount the claim.
