Message from Mom Who Stabbed Sex Assault Suspect
By Ty Milburn
SHEBOYGAN - Police are considering charges against a woman for stabbing a 17-year-old boy several times with a kitchen knife after being told he was caught sexually assaulting her 8-year-old daughter.
Sheboygan police released new details about the case Friday after arresting the 27-year-old woman a day earlier. Initial reports indicated she stabbed the boy to interrupt the assault, but the police account said it was several minutes later.
The teen was treated at a hospital for wounds to his arm and leg. He was arrested Friday upon his release from the hospital on a tentative charge of attempted first-degree sexual assault, and he was being held on a probation violation, Detective Matthew Walsh said.
The teen may be charged as soon as Monday.
A 30-year-old man discovered the teen assaulting the girl Thursday morning and struck him with a shovel, house fan and other objects while pulling him from the child's bedroom, according to the statement police released Friday.
The mother and her boyfriend came into the apartment to stop the fight and only later learned what it was about. When the mother and teen were alone, she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him several times, the statement said.
She was arrested for recklessly endangering safety and substantial battery but had not been formally charged as Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco reviewed the case.
Police said the woman crossed the line when she stabbed the suspect long after he allegedly assaulted her daughter. Police call what she did an act of aggression and said at that time she was defending neither herself nor her daughter.
She was released Friday on $25,000 signature bond and told to return to court Aug. 27.
DeCecco said he was waiting for additional reports before making his decision on charges.
"We want to review everything," he said. "We want to see the whole story about what happened and investigate her alleged behavior given the whole story."
The mother didn't want to talk about what happened, but sent a text message to TODAY’S TMJ4 reporter Ty Milburn which read, “There was no party like everyone makes it sound. Just a relative that I trusted that was staying the night. He betrayed my trust and all I did was protect my baby girl. Any parent would react the same way.”
Her boyfriend said the mother has no regrets. “I am pretty sure she feels like she did the right thing, no turning back,” Jason Krucynski said.
“She got all of the details and she found out what was going on and she just lost it,” Krucynski explained. “She reacted in a motherly instinct and took it into her own hands.”
The woman's family and friends are at odds with police over the decision to arrest her. They said they still find it hard to believe the mother of a child assault victim is the only one that's been punished so far.
“Its disgusting,” Ramon Rodriguez, a friend of the mother, said. “It's perverted and it is gross.”
“The court system is so foul, it's ridiculous,” Rodriguez added.
The teen was arrested last fall for having sex with a child under age 16, according to police.
He received a deferred prosecution agreement that would likely be voided if he were to be charged with another crime. He would then be convicted of second-degree sexual assault in the 2006 incident and could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.
