Cudahy Optometrist Charged with Murder

By Erin Drew Kent

CUDAHY - He paid a woman to get married but she ended up dead. An optometrist from Cudahy is accused of murdering a woman in Minnesota. Dean A. Barrette, 44, is charged in a Hennepin County, Minnesota, complaint with murdering Alison Daniels, 24. Daniels was found dead August 6 in a Radisson University Hotel room in Minneapolis. Barrette sits in the Milwaukee County Jail awaiting extradition to Minneapolis. It was a rendezvous on the Las Vegas strip that police say led to murder. Investigators say Barrette met up with Daniels at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas on July 24. Prosecutors claim Barrette offered Daniels money to marry him but she skipped town with the cash instead. A criminal complaint alleges Barrette caught up with Daniels later in Minneapolis, demanded the money back, then shot her in the head. People in Cudahy who know Barrette can't believe it. Daniel Kaminski worked near Barrette. "I'm just in shock, you (TODAY'S TMJ4) come knocking on my door and tell me this," Kaminski said. "I mean to think we have a murderer living so close to our business, I don't know what to say about this."
