Plane Crash: One Year Later

  • Print
WAUKESHA - Don Wehr will never forget the horrible words his wife told him on August 14, 2006. "She said he was in a plane crash. No survivors," Don Wehr, victim's brother, said. Don says he lost a friend and a brother. TODAY'S TMJ4 has pictures of Don's brother, Jim Wehr, in the plane. The pictures were taken of Jim and his coworker, Mike Wraalstad, the same day the plane crashed in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. "I just miss him. I miss him every day," Kamara Welch, victim's daughter, said. Kamara Welch is Mike Wraalstad's daughter. Kamara didn't just lose a father; she lost three Spancrete Group coworkers including vice president, Dan Nagy. "It's very hard. I've cried every day since the accident," Welch added. Spancrete workers have a memorial banner hanging at the Spancrete plant with the names Mike, Dan and Jim. In July, the Spancrete Group held a memorial motorcycle ride on their behalf. All proceeds go to local charities. "What do you think your dad would say about this ride?" TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Melissa McCrady asked. "My dad would be so proud," Welch replied. Mike is remembered for his jolly spirit. Dan for his love of family and Jim for always putting others first. Three men being remembered for how they lived, not the tragic way they died. "These are true characters of what a good person should be," Welch said. The memorial ride will take place next year on July 12, 2008. If you are interested in riding in the event or are a company that would like to sponsor the event contact Ken La Chance or Kamara Welch at 414.290.9000.
