OZAUKEE COUNTY – An elderly woman is dead and two others were hurt after a T-bone accident near Random Lake.
On Sunday around 1:30 p.m., 86-year-old Marcella Krick reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at State Hwy. 57 and County Hwy. K, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department.
Krick, of Belgium, was alone in her 2005 Ford Focus as she traveled eastbound on Hwy. K through the intersection, authorities said. Investigators say that at the same time, a GMC Yukon carrying a couple from Sheboygan Falls was coming southbound on Hwy. 57 and slammed into the Focus. Sheriff’s deputies report that the driver had no time to avoid the accident.
Krick was pronounced dead at the scene by a Flight for Life doctor. The man driving the Yukon was treated for injuries on scene, while his wife was taken by ambulance to Columbia St. Mary’s in Mequon with leg and hip injuries, according to the sheriff’s department.
The southbound lane of Hwy. 57 was closed for one hour and 10 minutes as the victims were attended to and the accident investigated.
The accident remains under investigation, however, speed, alcohol nor drugs appear to be contributing factors, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department.
Ozaukee and Sheboygan County sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident, as well as Random Lake Fire and Rescue and Plymouth Ambulance.
