GURNEE, Ill., - Police in northern Illinois are still searching for a robber who jumped a bank counter and made off with cash from a vault.
At around 2:46 p.m. Wednesday, the First Bank, located at 6121 Washington St. in Gurnee was robbed by a black man posing as a bank customer.
The suspect entered the bank a few minutes earlier and told the teller that he wanted to make a withdrawal from his account, but he did not have his checkbook with him. He asked for a blank check and deposit slip. The suspect gave the name Paul Johnson to the teller.
At that point, the suspect jumped over the vacant teller counter next to him and shoved the bank employee out of the way and grabbed an unknown amount of money from the bank vault.
The vault was open due to an audit procedure that was underway at the time.
The suspect then fled the bank and got into a vehicle parked along the curb near the bank. A witness in the parking lot reported the car drove eastbound on Washington Street.
No weapon was displayed or implied during the incident. No one was injured.
The suspect is described as a black man, 5’ 10”, 215-230 lbs., heavy build, thin mustache and dark complexion. The suspect was wearing a light blue ball cap with “NEW DAD” on the front in pink letters, orange-colored polo shirt with yellow and blue horizontal stripes, khaki shorts and white tennis shoes.
The suspect’s getaway vehicle is describes as an older model, tan or gold minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey, with tinted windows and a Wisconsin partial temporary registration of B34?84.
