Local NewsBo Black Gets a PlaqueBy Diane Pathieu
MILWAUKEE - Even though the Big Gig doesn't start for a couple days, there was a big honor handed out Tuesday for former Summerfest executive director Bo Black.
The children's fountain at the Main Gate now bears her name. And a plaque was added to the fountain explaining Black's contribution to the music festival.
She worked as the Summerfest executive director for almost 20 years and is credited with making Summerfest the success it is today.
The Summerfest board decided not to keep her as director in 2003.
Black now lives in Arizona and is battling health problems.
Black is still recovering from a stroke she suffered back in February. Last week she was hospitalized with a staph infection. But she is now back at her home in Scottsdale.
In a telephone interview Tuesday she sent Milwaukee her blessings. "I really want to thank the people of Milwaukee so much for praying for me." Black said. "I had a rough way to go and I'm still not out of the woods so I still need everybody's prayers..."
