Buy a House, Get a Car
WAUWATOSA - Lynne Bednarz is so ready to sell her home that she has decided to throw in a brand new car for free.
"It's a buyers market," says Bednarz. The home, which is located at 1448 Church Street in Wauwatosa, has been on the market for six months. Bednarz worked with a local car dealership to secure the Saturn vehicle on loan. As soon as someone agrees to buy her house, Bednarz will buy the Saturn and include it with the sale. "It has air, automatic, and windows and door locks, it's a great car," she said.
Realtors tell us that incentives are becoming more common because of the competitive real estate market. Common give-aways include plasma TV sets, appliances or money to apply toward closing costs. Roy Scholtka of HomeSale Realty said trips are also becoming a more common incentive. "Maybe a trip to Las Vegas. We are starting to see some of that," he said.
The Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors said the average Milwaukee-area home sits on the market for about two or three months. That is longer than this time last year.
Although giving away a car is exceptionally rare, the use of incentives to buyers is on the rise. Scholtka said, "You have to set yourself apart from the rest of the market."
The car is worth about $16,000, according to Bednarz. If a buyer does not want the car, Bednarz said she will deduct the price of the Saturn from the price of the home.
