MILWAUKEE - By her own admission, Yvette Workman's 15-year-old son is out of control.
"He has a history of stealing cars," she said. But he doesn't stop at stealing cars, Workman said. Her son and his best friend have also been known to repeatedly break into their neighbors' houses near N. 9th and Concordia.
"I told him, 'The next time you break into someone else's house you might not come back out, you might be dead and then I will have to bury you,'" she said.
When Workman learned the boys broke into Sandra Sim's house on Tuesday and stole some of her son's clothes, video games, along with her car, Workman said she'd had enough. She called the police and had the boys locked up.
You might think this was a hard choice for Workman, calling the police on her son when she knew he'd be carted off to jail. But Workman said the choice was easy. She believes she is saving his life.
"I don't want my kids out here dead. I would rather have them locked up than dead," she explained.
Workman said she is hoping jail time will teach the boys a lesson and praying they won't make the same mistakes when they get out.
