Two Teens Killed in Hartford Crash

TOWN OF HARTFORD - An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were killed in a single-car crash early Sunday on Kettle Moraine Road, just north of Highway 60.

According to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Department, the vehicle was southbound on Kettle Moraine Road when it went into a skid, traveled off the road and struck a large tree. Both occupants were ejected.

Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

joe The victims were identified Monday by the Washington County Sheriff's Department as Joseph A Safranski 18, Hartford (pictured right), and Austin J. Kowalski 17, Hartford. Safranski was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to Aurora Medical Center - Hartford.

Kowalski was taken to the same hospital and then flown to the Milwaukee County Medical Complex by a Flight for Life helicopter. He eventually died from his injuries.

The sheriff's department says, "At this time excessive speed and alcohol use are being investigated as possible contributing factors."

The crash was reported at 2:25 a.m., Sunday.

It's the second fatal accident this year in Washington County.
