By Jenn Rourke

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County Sheriff’s detectives discovered 44 ½ pounds of marijuana after they stopped a motorist who failed to obey the state’s “Move Over” law. The law requires motorists to move over one lane or slow down when passing law enforcement squads or other emergency vehicles. On Friday, around 3 p.m., detectives stopped a white Oldsmobile after the driver failed to move over for a Wisconsin state patrol squad that was conducting a traffic stop on northbound I-94 at West Oakwood Road. The driver of the car was a 23-year-old Milwaukee man. He was driving on a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for driving on a suspended license. The passenger was a 22-year-old South Milwaukee man who had an outstanding warrant with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for driving on a revoked license. As detectives took the suspects into custody, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana and searched the vehicle. They found 44 ½ pounds of marijuana in the trunk. The marijuana has an approximate street value of $30,000. Both suspects are currently in the Milwaukee County Jail and now face a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
